Take Me Down to the Paradise City
Take me down to the Paradise City depicts Axl Rose and Slash from the popular 90s rock band Guns N Roses in a Henri Rousseau styled Garden of Eden. By rehashing fine art with the popular culture of my childhood I seek to address the clash and similarities between religious ideology and celebrity worship. This work in particular also seeks to reverse the male gaze and takes a stab at the patriarchal foundations that exist within the Christian religious doctrine. My current body of work offers a post-modern take on needlework, readdressing the craft vs art debate and revaluing what has previously been seen as ‘domestic’ and ‘women’s’ work.
