The old river (Larapinta)
The Finke River, or Larapinta, is one of the oldest river systems in the world. The ancient river flows through the West MacDonnell and Finke Gorge National Parks and meanders a long distance to the western edge of the Simpson Desert. The intent of the painting is to showcase the flows of the mighty river and the beauty of the surrounding land using a semi-abstract style with symbolic elements. The running river and flora are simplified using forms, shapes, lines, together with markings to bring out the richness of the landscape.
